Memory Matching Game

Memory Matching Game

$0.00

Here’s a quick little design I did for my 3 year old daughter to replace a cardboard memory game that she lost most of the pieces to. The art work came from Nuno Lezon on the noun project. The design is a 90mm square with 10mm rounded corners. The squares have 3mmx9mm cutouts on all four sides to allow a rubber band to hold the pieces together. The cutouts also have rounded edges (Not pictured). Squares are positioned adjacent to each other with shared edges to minimize laser time and material waste.

The design holds 15 squares. My intention was to cut two copies of 15 unique squares, but if you want to make a half set, you can do 7 unique images and then use the final piece as a “cover” piece to place on top of the stack before rubber banding.

File Contents:

MemoryGameTemplate.svg - created in Inkscape 1.0. File contains 3 layers: 1 for the cut shapes (pink), 1 empty layer to add your art, 1 layer of 60mm guide squares (green). Guide squares are solely for aiding in aligning and sizing of the card art and need to be ignored by the laser or hidden in the file prior to saving.

MemoryGame-Animals.svg - created in Inkscape 1.0. A sample filled out with geometric animal shapes pictured. The green guidelines are hidden in this file, so it’s ready for cutting on the glowforge.

Picture Notes:

Only half the set is pictured (1 full sheet’s worth). I went ahead and took the pictures while I cut the second sheet.

I made two changes to the design after cutting this set and taking these pictures. 1) In the picture, rubber band notches are only cut from the sides and not the top and bottom. This required orienting the pieces when stacking them. To make clean up a little quicker, I put notches on all 4 sides. 2) In the picture the notches have sharp corners. I found the corners uncomfortable to handle and so rounded them out in the design.

Assembly difficulty: 1/5

Stack the pieces, put a rubber band around it. If you end up cutting 2 sheets of squares, you may need to split them into two stacks.
